My newly adopted dog is lethargic and won't eat. Is this normal?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 70 lbs

I recently adopted a dog (5 days ago) from a humane society. He's usually very high energy, loving and playful, and never turns down food. Today after his walk he refused his dog food, only accepted a small amount of water, and has been wanting to lay down all day. This isn't the usual behavior he's displayed since we've had him.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Charlie. He could have over exerted himself on his walk. Does he seem painful at all? Has he limped? If it was very hot, that can affect a dog's appetite as well. Coming from the humane society though, upper respiratory tract infections are very coming. Have you heard him cough? Other dogs will sneeze and have eye or nose discharge. I would monitor him closely for any of these signs. If he is not feeling better and refuses food, he will need to see an emergency veterinarian. I hope this information helps!
