Can Ivomec injection kill heartworms in dogs? Is it a treatment?

I was told that you can give Ivomec injection to dogs and it will kill and prevent heart worms. I have read that it is a preventative but have not seen anything that says it will kill them. Will it kill heart worms?

Yes, ivermectin (the active ingredient in ivomec) these days is the main preventive treatment but also the treatment for actual heartworm infestation, the dosage and frequency of administration is very different though, high doses are used to treat actual nfestation while very low doses are used to prevent the infestation.
