My puppy has a swollen cut near her eye. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 27 days old | 2.4 lbs

My puppy Cleo seems like she was playing rough with her brother and got hurt right befow her eye..it’s swollen, she can open her eye with no problem it seems, and she has a cut or scratch where she got hurt. Do I need to take her to the vet for special care or is there something I can do to help her heal or prevent it from getting worse?

It seems like it is a deep puncture wound. Because it is so swollen and near the eye I would get it checked by a vet as it will likely need antibiotics to heal properly without causing an further swelling around the eye If you can then I would clean the area with water on a damp clothe until you can get to the vet
