Is it normal for 5-week-old puppies to vomit after dewormer?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 5 months old | 55 lbs

I gave my 7 five week pups, who I believed to have roundworm, rfd dewormer. And like an hour later a couple of them have puked. Is this normal. Should I be concerned?

It can be an occurrence in some animals from that medication. As king as they are active and feeling well and have no further episodes I would not worry. It may also cause loose stool or diarrhea I would deworm them again in 1-2 weeks as a follow up

Yes, this is normal when the puppy has a large worm burden. Now, after being dewormed, there are a lot of dead worms which the body wants to get rid of. It does this by speeding up the bowel movements (diarrhea) and some of the worm toxins cause nausea. This should stop soon. He will probably have to have a second dose of dewormer in about 2 weeks.
