What is this smooth, round, fast-growing lump on my young dog's ear?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Terrier | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 9.4 lbs

Hey a smooth and round lump appeared on my border cross poodles ear. Ive been watching it closely since it popped up in december. Started to get a little worried at the rapid growth of it in the past couple of months and change in last week. It started very small and would appear to be getting bigger and bigger. It doesnt seem to bother our girl though and she is still her silly energetic self. Shes only just over a year and a half, so still a wee 4.

This looks like a skin mass - many are benign. One possibility is a histiocytoma which is a benign type of tumor that appears suddenly but generally goes away without specific treatment. There are other types of tumors that are possible, like a plasma cell tumor or mast cell tumor, that could look similar and should be removed although they would be a little less likely in a young dog. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine Sylvia - they may want to take a sample using a small needle to examine microscopically which could help with diagnosis.
