Why is my puppy crying and frantic when trying to poop? Is it pain?

Hi sam is 9 weeks old he has settled in great is eating normally and drinking normally he is being a normal happy puppy is not losing weight but when he is going to poo he gets really frantic and crying but stops as soon as poo comes out is this normal.

No this is not normal and indicates there may be a source of pain and discomfort around the back passage causing some reluctance to empty his bowels. Anal gland issues would be quite common and your vet or vet nurse can check and empty them for you if required. Ensure he is up to date with worm treatments also as they can cause discomfort in this area also and that stool is not too hard or soft resulting in straining
