Why are there lumps under my dog's skin and hair peeling off?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 90 lbs

I have a Great Dane lab mix that is about 5 years old. Last week we noticed a lump under her skin and then yesterday there were several more. While looking closer at the lumps the hair literally started peeling off. Any ideas why that would happen?

She could have a bacterial skin infection causing the problem. You could bathe her with a medicated dog shampoo, like Epi-Soothe and see if that helps. Otherwise, have her examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an antibiotic and corticosteroid to treat.
