How to calm my dog who panics, shakes, and has accidents in the car?

How can I get Penelope to calm down during car rides? Vet trips or any trip really are the worst, as soon as she gets in the car she starts to panic. She squeals, shakes all over, uses the bathroom in the car even tho she used it before we left, and she jumps and paws all over me. Our vet is 45 minutes away so is an ordeal getting her down there. Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 5 days old | 100 lbs

Generally speaking i would say that you should ask your vet for Xanax, ACP or Diazepam tablets for those rides, although that would probably not be suitable every time, it depends why you are taking her to the vet.
