Is it normal for a puppy not to poop after recovering from parvo?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 24 days old | 16 lbs

We didn't vaccinate our 4 month old puppy in time as he was just diagnosed with mild parvo. He's been taking antibiotics we got from the vet, syringe drinking water, eating a lot of rice and boiled chicken, and drinking the broth. He stopped puking and having diarrhea, which there was very little blood. He's very energetic and acts like his usual bratty self, which is a great relief. Only, he hasn't pooped in 24 hours but hasn't tried. Is this normal?

Yes, it can happen that a dog doesn't poop for a bit after having had diarrhea. I would keep an eye on Gunner for now, and if he still isn't pooping in another 12-24 hours, I would have him seen by a vet.
