My 8-week-old puppy is sick. Should I delay his first vaccinations?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 26 days old | 3.31 lbs

My puppy is sick because of the food we were giving which is too high in protein for him so we switch it to a different one but we did it too fast so his stomach isn't feeling well. He turns 8 weeks today so needs his first vaccinations but i'm not sure if it's ok for him to take the shots when he's sick? if it's not recommended, would it be bad if it takes more than 8 week to do the shots because of the wait?

Depending on the cause of his sickness, it may not be a good idea to have him vaccinated, especially if he has a fever. The best thing would be to have your vet take a look at him to determine if he should be vaccinated. Your vet can also prescribe medications to help make him feel better.
