Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | British Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 2 days old | 3 lbs

My cat is 13weeks old ans he starting to pee outside of litterbox.. he still poo inside his litterbox. His urine colour is pinkish to red so we went to emergency that day. So I am giving him antobiotics and some medicine they gave to me. But he still peeing outside with some sort of pickish colour. Should I wait more to recover or what should I do?!

If despite the treatment the symptoms are not resolving or at least gradually improving (inappropriate urination, blood in the urine, abnormally frequent urination) I would recommend to go back to your own vet for further tests (repeat urine analysis, urine culture and possibly blood works and abdominal ultrasound). UTI (urinary tract infection) are quite uncommon in such a young cat and I would suggest to have a abdominal ultrasound done to exclude congenital and anatomical disorders affecting the urinary system. In the meantime continue with the treatment prescribed by your vet.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Inappropriate urination is often a medical issue and possibilities include feline lower urinary tract disease, a urinary tract infection, urinary tract stones, among other possible medical reasons. I recommend that you have Finn evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. If he loses the ability to urinate, he should be evaluated on an emergency basis. Good luck and have a good night! Good luck and best wishes!
