What dewormer protects my puppy and family from tapeworms?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | unspayed | 4 months and 16 days old | 34.45 lbs

Hello, I have a German Shepherd puppy ( nearly 5 months old) she had Dronatal treatment 8 weeks ago and advocate worm and flea treatment 4 weeks ago. So I'm going to administer another dose of advocate worm and flea treatment this week. But as far as I know the advocate treatment doesn't protect from tapeworms. What and when should I administer to make sure that we the dog and the family is safe? Any help much appreciated. Thank you.

Dogs acquire tapeworms from eating fleas. If you have the flea problem under control and she was treated for tapeworms than she should not get them again. If you notice any segments in her feces than she should be dewormed again. If you continue with monthly fleas prevention than the problem should go away. Your family will not get tapeworms unless someone ingests a flea!
