My dog is very anxious on walks. He pulls on his lead and barks at other dogs. It's very difficult to calm him down. I'm try to remain calm and use soothing tones. I've tried giving him treats and toys to distract him but he won't accept them. He's a street dog that we just re-homed last week. He's so well behaved at home, hes very loving and playful. He thrives on praise and his behaviour in the house has improved massively since last week.

I would suggest enrolling him in a beginner obedience class right away. There, he can learn to walk calmly on a leash in the controlled presence of other dogs and people. He may have had some disturbing incidents when he was living on the streets that make him anxious when he go out.
