My dog vomited, not eating, but still playing. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 10 months and 19 days old

My dog vomited yesterday morning, and when I got home last night from work, my mother told me my dog haven't been drinking and eating at all. But she's not lethargic, and still play like she usually does. But still, it concerns me. My uncle told me she ate chicken (it's not a left over food), and now I saw here drinking water. Should I go to the vet?

Poor Chili. It sounds like she is trying to recover from whatever caused her to be ill in the first place. Perhaps she got into something she wasn't supposed to, and it took her a while to recover herself. Since she is eating a small amount and drank some water and kept this down, give her some more time before having to run to the vet. She may not need to visit the vet if she continues to improve over the next 12-24 hrs. Continue offering her small amounts of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese and water to help settle her stomach completely. I hope Chili recovers well!

He might have eaten something spoiled that is causing this. withhold food for 8 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.
