Hi there. I seek advice with regards to my dogs situition, he was finding it difficult to pass stools and was in a lot of pain. We have been to a local vet and they say has perennial hernia and the only solution is surgery. Due to finanical affairs we sought home remedies and have included liquid parafin oil in his diet as a solution and it seems to be working as he is in no pain and normal again. However as non experts in this field we seek other expert advice on the dogs situation. Thank you

So sorry that your dog is having this problem. Surgery is recommended for perineal hernias because the bladder or intestines can become trapped in the hernia which can be a very serious problem. If the hernia is small than the medical management that you are doing may work but your dog is at risk of having an entrapment if the hernia is not fixed surgically.
