New guinea pig in divided cage: Is this the right way to introduce?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Male

hi! I bought a new guinea pig but since I don't have another cage, I placed a steel bar to separate them from being together fully but they're in the same cage, so basically there's a divider, they haven't shown any aggressive actions and sometimes they purr at one another, I just wanted to know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, and they don't seem to be bothered but each other. I jut got my new guinea pig this monday that just passed by so not long ago and this is their actions.

You can remove the divider and introduce them to each other for a few minutes. Monitor closely for signs of aggression. The next day, allow them to be together for a bit longer. Continue to allow them to be together for longer periods of time until you are sure they can get along. Confirm they are both the same sex, otherwise you may find yourself with baby guinea pigs.
