My dog's pancreatitis treatment is raising her creatinine. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog has bad case of pancreatitis. She has already had the IV fluids for 48 hours. The problem is it is causing her creatinine to raise to 6.7. I just wish I could get the pancreatitis under control so I can get the kidneys values back down. I am force feeding prescription diet as she has not ate in a about a week.

If not eating supportive nutritional treatment and IV fluids at your vet's clinic must be continued. Pancreatitis usually cause marked discomfort and that could lead to persistent inappetence. Pain must be controlled and often opioids are required. From your description hospitalization should be discussed again. Please do not hesitate to ask further questions (on the forum or by requesting a consultation) if it can be of any help.

When I treat pancreatitis I usually keep them on IV fluids in addition to gastroptotectants such as famotidine, and sucralfate. Sometimes antibiotics are needed as well. If her kidney enzymes are elevated that I would increase her fluid rate to twice maintenance. I would be happy to consult in more detail as I will need more information.
