My puppy wakes me up too early. How can I get him to sleep later?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | unneutered | 7 months and 22 days old

Is there a way to get your puppy used to sleeping more? He doesn't even go potty for hours after he wakes me up, but he's up around 6 every day

That must be so annoying! One way to do this is to adjust Kiba's feeding time. Start by moving forward his morning meal time forward by 15 minutes for a couple of days, then move it forward another 15 minutes and keep it there so his meal is 30 minutes later in the morning. Make sure you adjust his dinner time at the same time to move his dinner time back 30 minutes. That may give you an additional 30 minutes of sleep in the morning. Another trick is to exercise him right before dinner. That may tire him out so he sleeps later.
