My dog has red jelly-like stool occasionally. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 5 years and 10 months old | 16 lbs

My dogs stool at times is a red jelly type about once or twice a week, he does have solid stools most of the time, he eats dry food, I switched from grain free to regular dog food to see if it helps. Just would like to know what it is

It is possible that Koa has GI polyps causing the occasional blood in his stools, or if he's the type of dog who likes to eat things he shouldn't, there could be damage to his intestinal tract as they pass through. It could also be caused by intestinal worms if he's not up to date on his deworming treatments. It's not normal for a dog to have bloody stool a couple of times a week, and I would recommend having him seen by a vet tomorrow to diagnose what is causing the occasional bloody stool so he can be treated for it.
