Is it safe to bathe my dog or puppy with Dawn dish soap regularly?

I'm planning on getting a Maltese dog. I read on a Maltese website that some people bathe their dogs with "Dawn" dish soap to keep their dog's coat white. ( It sounds like it's a bit strong to use on a puppy or even an adult dog. ) Is it okay to use Dawn on a puppy or adult dog on a regular basis? Thanks!

I wouldn't use it on a regular basis. It can be used on puppies to kill fleas who are too little to get flea treatment, and to wash toxic substances off dogs, but it would be better to use a dog formulated shampoo instead. While Dawn is gentle, using it too often can cause your dog's skin to dry out.
