My dog ate chicken bones, seems fine, but has yellow poop. What now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My dog a lab mix around 80lbs ate 15 chicken wing bones. He is so far acting okay. His poop is yellow. What do I do?!

Oh dear! In many cases like this, the bones may pass through without causing any problems. But, cooked chicken bones can splinter into sharp pieces, so there is a chance that the bones could cause an obstruction or an intestinal perforation. As long as he is acting normal, you shouldn't need to worry. I would recommend monitoring your dog closely for the next 2-3 days. If he has repeated episodes of vomiting, acts lethargic, stops eating, or doesn't have regular bowel movements, you will need to take him to the vet right away for an exam and x-rays, as these can be signs of a serious problem and he may need emergency surgery to remove the bones.
