My dog has a painful, swollen, bleeding bump on her head. What is it?

My 10 year old shihtzu had what we believed was a abscess on her head between her ear and eye. It popped up pretty quickly and looked like it had a head in it like a pimple. It broke open last night maybe from her scratching it. It seems really swollen and is bleeding a bit because she keeps scratching it . She otherwise seems her normal self and is playing and eating properly, but the spot seems to be hurting her we try to touch it. Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 21 days old | 11 lbs

Based on your description, it could be an abscess or an infected growth. For now apply a cone (e-collar) to prevent scratching and further trauma. Follow up with your veterinarian to have the area clipped, cleaned and evaluated for further treatment.
