My dog had seizures today. What to do if vets are closed on holiday?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 14 years and 3 months old | 5 lbs

Our dog just had two seizures in one day. Since it's a holiday we can't find anyone open. What should we do in the mean time?

I'm very sorry Lindsay is having seizures. There should be a vet on call for emergencies, and the information is usually on the answering machine on how to reach them. You can also see if there is an ER vet clinic in your area. Lindsay should see a vet as soon as possible. If she seizures again before you can seek vet care: - Don't put your hands near her mouth - Keep some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle to spray on the pads of the feet for cooling - Monitor her at all times during the seizure to ensure that she cannot hurt herself by crashing into furniture, etc - If the seizure continues for more than 5 minutes, seek emergency care immediately
