Dogs will eat their own stool when trying to balance a poor diet, when bored or if curious. They will usually outgrow the behavior by one year of age. Eating stool can cause GI upset. It can also reinfect avdog with intestinal parasites. Restrict his access to stool if he is still eating it. Clean up immediately after he goes. Having him on a leash will help keep him away until you pick it up. Feed a balanced diet. Choose a good quality food which will provide the proper nutrition and hopefully prevent the behavior.
