My dog won't eat his food, is losing weight, and throws up. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 4 years and 6 months old | 65 lbs

My dog randomly stopped eating his dog food and started losing weight. When he does eat he usually throws it up. I tried a few different dog foods and he won't eat. He will only eat human food. And he keepz it down. I raised him with no human food. He still is losing weight though. Besides that he is acting pretty normal except bring extra loving. What could it be?

There are a number of illnesses that could cause decreased appetite with weight loss. Some common possibilities would include chronic liver or kidney disease, a partial intestinal obstruction due to a foreign body or tumor, a severe intestinal parasite load, or even some type of cancer. I would recommend taking Pohana to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can do blood work and x-rays to help determine the problem and see what can be done to treat it.
