What food should I give my dog after an enema for constipation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | 6 years and 2 months old

My dog had an enema today for constipation. I was told no food tonight. Would plain oatmeal for breakfast be better for him than his regular food? Or is there anything else I should feed him?

I would feed him a small amount of his regular food and add a teaspoon of canned pumpkin to his food (not pumpkin pie filling). You also need to make sure he drinks enough water. If he does not appear to drink enough, feed him canned food, but slowly introduce it.
