My dog has a red, bubbly rash on her lower tummy. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I need help! Vets a last choice. My pit mix has broke out underneath on her lower tummy. No bugs from outside and she didn't get anything or into anytjing. She's like the other half of me, I know what she does 24/7. She's not covered from fleas but I've not seen any on her. At first it was bubbly red rash with black on top, wiped off, now gets darker red every day. Liquid gel Benadryl has helped ONLY when used. Her tummy is on fire but she doesn't act like it bathers her.. I've tried DOUXO. No.

It sounds like it is time to take your pup to the vet! While it may be a "last choice" for you, it is a good first step in figuring out what the problem is. Skin rashes can be from a number of things including allergies, skin infections, food allergies, fungal problems, parasites, illness and more, and treating at home isn't always useful if you don't know what the cause is. Getting her on a good parasite preventive, checking for allergies, and testing the irritated parts of the skin for infection is best to provide the correct treatment. Until you can get to the vet, using an Elizabethan (cone) collar on her is best to keep her from licking and chewing, which can lead to more infection and irritation.
