My dog's surgery wound still infected after a month? What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

After my dog was attaked she had to have stitches put in. She had 2 large incisions, one on her leg and one on her stomach. The ones on her stomach became infected. So for the last 10 days I've been giving her antibiotics every 12 hours and also spraying her infected area with a topical spray prescribed by her vet. I can tell it's healed up a lot but there is still a certain area that still looks infected. I'm wondering what's taking so long? It's been about a month since she had her surgery.

Serious infections can take longer to heal, up to a few weeks, and she's been on antibiotics for 10 days at this point in time. It's good that it's healed up a lot, but without seeing it in person, I can't tell you for certain if there is an area that is still infected or not. It would be a good to have the vet examine the area to make certain it is healing properly, and I would bring her into the vet for an exam.
