My large dog accidentally ate Neosporin. Is he okay? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Rio is 85 - 90 pounds. He just ingested about 5 grams of Neosporin (1/6 ounch). What should I do?

That was naughty of Rio! Neosporin is mildly to severely toxic to dogs if ingested in large amounts. Given Rio's size, you may see some GI upset, such as vomiting and diarrhea. Should that occurs, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If you see signs such as trembling and/or seizures, you will need to take him into the vet right away, but because he did not eat a lot, this most likely won't occur.
