My cat had bloody diarrhea, now normal. Does she need a vet trip?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 5 years and 1 month old | 8 lbs

Last Saturday my cat had diarrhea that had some bright red blood in it. Since then she has not had anymore diarrhea but has had a tiny bit of blood at the end of her poop a few times. She is completely normal aside from that. She is eating and playing like she always does. I haven’t noticed any other symptoms. She has severe anxiety when it comes to her cat carrier and traveling so I don’t want to put her through a vet trip if it’s not needed.

Some spotting of blood can be quite common following severe diarrhea/colitis and as long as all other signs are normal and there is no weight loss I would not be overly concerned - it should resolve over 7-10days. I would recommend a probiotic such as fortiflora/canikur to optimize gut balance and promote recovery

Hi. If she is stable and acting ok, you can monitor her tonight. I would take her in in the next couple days though. Just to make sure all is ok. Could be from anything causing inflammation in the GI tract.
