Should I worry about this meat-like bump on my dog's forehead?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

Hello, I noticed today on one of my parent's courtyard dogs forehead a small-medium sized meat pimple that portrudes trough the fur/has a clearing in the fur. It doesn't look like an insect egg because of the overall pure meat like texture and I'm worried. They run in the fields on an almost daily-basis so who knows what they might catch. Hope the photos give some information if they need treatment or need to see any real vet thank you.

From the pic you provided the ''pimple'' looks like a small mass/growth. Although it looks like a benign type of skin growth, it needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! From your pictures the "pimple" appears to be a mass on the skin. The most common type of mass that looks like that are skin tags or sebaceous adenomas. Both of which tend to occur other places on the body. There are other causes for skin growths that look like this, both cancerous and benign. If Rocky is a good, calm dog maybe your vet can use some lidocaine and remove it for you. Anytime a pet develops a new growth I recommend having a Vet examine it. I hope this helps and I wish Rocky the best!
