My dog slipped and now struggles to jump. Could it be a pulled muscle?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Male | neutered | 6 years and 1 month old | 16 lbs

my beagle is 6 years old and slipped on a dust sheet on a tiled floor last week and now seems slightly reluctant to jump up on the settee - he will very gently do it or tries to step up rather than jump - could he have just pulled a muscle

Pulled muscle, intervertebral disc disease, soft tissue injury of another kind (pulled ligament), could be all possible differentials diagnosis at this stage. Certainly a check up at your local veterinarian would help to understand exactly underlying cause and treat appropriately. Anti-inflammatory medications will speed up recovery and alleviate pain.
