Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed
Hello my female cat is straining to urinate and is urinating small amounts of blood. This was only noticed ten minutes ago when she began urinating on a bed. She seems very lively and is grooming repeatedly. She is young

Cats can certainly get urinary tract infections, but they can also get something called feline lower urinary tract disease. This disease has all of the symptoms of an infection without any bacteria causing the problem. This is more common in younger cats, multiple cat households, spring and fall, and in times of stress. We usually manage these cases with fluids and medication. If a cat has a repeatable problem then often there are diet and husbandry changes recommended. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian soon as she is likely painful. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Your cat most likely has cystitis in the bladder, it can be caused by infection, stress, bladder stones etc. It is usually not fatal as long as the bladder isnt blocked. You should take her to the vet as she may need pain relief and antibiotics. Increasing fluid intake and reducing stress with feliway diffusers can improve cystitis occurence.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This is not necessarily her time to go as she may be dealing with just a urinary tract infection, bladder stone, cystitis, etc. Which are all conditions that can be treated. If she seems fine at the moment, I would just keep an eye on her and try and get her urine tested with the veterinarian as soon as you can. As long as she is eating, drinking, urinating, defecating ok, I would say that it should be fine to keep an eye on her until you can get her seen. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions / concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

It sounds like Charlotte may have a UTI or bladder stones causing her to urinate blood. Even though the bleeding has stopped, it doesn't mean the cause of it has resolved, and she does have to see a vet. There still could be blood in her urine that's not visible to the naked eye. The vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet. She should see a vet first think in the morning.
