My dog's eye has pus that returns quickly. Is it an emergency?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 57 lbs

For the past two days my dog’s eye has been this way and when we clean it up it comes back pretty quickly. Does this require immediate attention?

Purulent diacharge (pus), can be associated with infections, allergic inflammation, or even injury like a scratch to the cornea. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon, (next day or so), but it may not be an emergency (next few hours). Best of luck and I hope he improves soon.
