My puppy ate a brownie and is vomiting and lethargic. Will he be okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | unneutered | 4 months and 10 days old | 45 lbs

My 5-6 month old Great Perinese puppy ate half of a cosmic brownie the other night. He had one day of vomiting a lot, but since, no vomit or bloody stools. But since then, he has been very lethargic and hasn’t eaten his food. But he has been drinking water. Will he be okay?

It appears that he definitely experienced some signs of chocolate toxicity, but it doesn't appear to have progressed, so he's likely not going to have any life-threatening complications from the chocolate. However, he obviously feels bad and is going to have some gastrointestinal upset. The fact that he is drinking water is good, because dehydration is the biggest concern with profuse vomiting. You can help treat for dehydration by adding oral rehydration salts or pedialyte to his water. Without being able to examine him, I can't say for sure that he will be fine, so the best option is to have a vet examine him. Being lethargic and not interested in food is understandable right now, but if this goes on for longer than 24 hours, then it's best to take him to the vet. He may be having other complications or needs IV fluids in order to get him back to normal. I hope that helps and Ghost gets better soon.
