Why was my cat suddenly ill with pain, then quickly recovered?

Hi afew days ago tiggs was ill he was walking like a 16 year old cat not 5 years he was not eating only bits and dabs he could not jump it was too painful for him so he slept on the floor , i also noticed when he walked he was not limping but his back was didnt look right infact he often cleaned licked his back and sometimes sratched it you could not pick him up as it seemed to hurt I know he must have been in pain his behaviour changed yet today he back to normal what happened.?.?

It's possible he could have gotten into something making him feel unwell or disoriented, thus causing his strange behavior or refusal to eat. Minor injuries or wounds may also cause changes in behavior, signs of pain or changes in gait that you saw. In cases of neurologic problems, illness, etc, symptoms usually worsen rather than resolve, or remain for longer than a day, however without an exam it would be hard to tell if this is the case or not in your situation. It's good that he's back to normal, however if the behavior returns, or he refuses to eat completely, seems dazed or confused, is twitching or shaking, or otherwise appears unwell, seeking veterinary care is best.
