My dog eats poop. Can probiotics and enzymes help digestion?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered | 10 years and 3 months old | 5.5 lbs

My dog has eaten his own poop like 3x now....I understand that may be a digestive issue.....should I give him some probiotics & enzymes to help with this issue? (animal essentials - probiotics & enzymes supplement)

There are a large number of reasons that a dog will eat their own poop. I am attaching a handout below that lists some of the reasons. https://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&S=0&C=0&A=1613 If Baby Bum hasn't previously had problems with this, then I would look a little further into any other medical problems that might be changing his appetite including having your veterinarian do an exam and check a fecal sample. If all is normal, you could certainly consider a diet change and/or adding probiotics and digestive enzymes. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
