Puppy lethargic, not pooping. Is it constipation? What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 1 month and 3 days old | 10 lbs

Hi, my puppy had a really big "lunch" and has only pooped once which is abnormal for him. He is also lethargic and not following me around like he normally does. Could he be constipated? If so, how do I remedy? And if not, what could it be?

Thanks for the question. If Jax ate a lot more than normal, he may have a bit of a belly ache. As long as he is not vomiting, or acting like he is trying to vomit, then I would give him overnight to see if he perks up. I would skip dinner if you haven't given it yet. Tomorrow, if he doesn't have a bowel movement, you can try giving him a couple tablespoons of canned pumpkin with a small amount of food. If he goes more than two days without a bowel movement, or starts vomiting or gagging, or isn't back to normal by Monday, then I would definitely seek veterinary attention. If he is acting worse at any time, don't wait those two days, and seek emergency care over the weekend. I hope Jax feels better soon.
