My puppy won't potty in the right spot. Is he too young to train?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 18 days old | 33 lbs

I'm trying to potty train my puppy so everytime he's gonna pee, I'll pick him up and rush to the place I want him to potty in. But he never potties there. I've been trying for so many times but he never does. Is there a way for him to potty there? Is he too young to train? Please help. Thanks!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Kuro is a bit young to have too many expectations. I would only walk him in the areas you want him to urinate in. If he won't go put him in the crate and try again. use commands like "go pee pee" or "do your business." Then when he goes make a HUGE deal about it: verbal praise, pet him, great treat and then play with him for a while. If he does poop or pee put it in the area you want him to go. He will eventually catch on! I hope this helps and I wish you and Kuro the best!
