My cat has a fast-growing lump on her nipple. Should I see a vet soon?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Ragdoll | Female | spayed | 8 years and 11 months old | 7.6 lbs

My cat is a 9 year old female raggdoll. She was a breeder for 8 years and is now spay. I have a vet appointment for this Saturday but I'm wondering if I should get in sooner. She has a disc like hardness around one of her nipples with little bumps around it underneath the skin and it has grown in under a week.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Cats certainly can develop mammary cancer, & that is a suspicion with any lumps near the nipples. If you can have her seen before Saturday, then that would be great, just in case Missy needs to be on antibiotics. But I also would not be terribly concerned if you kept the Saturday appointment. That is still plenty of time to address the things if something needs to be done. Call your vet & explain that the lumps are getting larger quicker & hopefully they will get Missy in sooner, & you can see what is going on with her. Take care.

If she is acting normal then it can probably wait until Saturday. If your vet thinks it should be removed it probably won't happen until next week even if you got an appointment before Saturday. However, if it would give you peace of mind and your vet can see her before Saturday then maybe you should take an earlier appointment.
