Should I worry about my dog's soft, movable skin tag? See a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 2 years and 1 month old | 83 lbs

My dog seems to have developed something that looks like a skin tag but I am afraid it might be something more serious. It doesn’t affect him, he is not bothered by it and it has not gotten larger. He’s had it for about two weeks now. It has been the same colour and shape ever since. When I touch it, it feels soft and sort of like it can be moved with a finger. I’m worried I should go see a doctor since it might be something serious.

This looks like it could be a benign mass or skin tag, but unfortunately sometimes more serious masses and tumors (such as a mast cell tumor) can look similar. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian. They may want to take an aspirate using a small needle to examine cells under the microscope.
