Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Male dogs do not go in to heat, that is exclusively female. Male dogs can mate and are fertile all the time. Humping can be sexual in nature, or to show dominance or dogs can hump when anxious. If something has changed in his environment or routine he could be stressed. Distract him when he starts and try to calm him down. Exercise him and provide a lot of praise and interaction for acceptable behaviors. Consider neutering him if the behavior escalates. I hope this helps and I wish Charlie the best!
