Why is my dog shaking, can't move, lethargic, and in pain?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Female | spayed | 8 years and 1 month old | 10 lbs

My dog changed over night. She's shaking and trembling all over. She can barely stand or move. She jumps, falls, and flops about out of nowhere. You can tell just to move a natural motion she really has to think about it as if doing it for the first time. Even eating and drinking motions! This is day two... dry warm nose, deep breaths and quick blow out. Watery glassy eyes. Noted dehydrated skin. Body jerks. Obvious pain and lethargic. I feel like I'm forcing her to drink and eat.

I am so sorry that Marly seems so sick! You Must be very worried. By what you describe I start thinking about the possibility of a back problem such as a slipped disk, or perhaps something going on in her brain such as encephalitis. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. After a thorough physical examination they should have more of an idea about what may be wrong and some recommendations for you. Best of luck and I hope you are able to get her more comfortable soon! Thank you for using Pet Coach.
