Pet's info: Dog | Boxer | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 20 days old | 30 lbs
Hi, my 3 month old boxer is continuing to have diarrhea from us switching his foods. We mix half and half from both brands. I was told to wait 12 hours to feed him again and to give him chicken and rice for the next 24 hours. I always feed him 3 times daily. Do I skip his lunch and just feed him chicken and rice at dinner time and than wait 24 hours to try mixing his dry foods together again?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I generally recommend withholding food for at least 8-12 hours and then feeding a bland diet such as the chicken and rice. I recommend feeding this diet at least 3 days past the resolution of the diarrhea and then transition to the regular food over a 3-5 day period until he is back on the dog food 100%. If the diarrhea continues, I would recommend switching to a new dog food altogether or consider adding in a probiotic such as Purina Fortiflora, which can be found online quite easily or at your local pet store. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further!

Withhold food for 12 hours then offer her boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if her is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If the diarrhea doesn't stop, take her to the vet to get treatment.

Poor Pluto Feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
