My senior dog pees inside when alone, despite a dog door. Why?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 12 years and 8 months old | 80 lbs

I have 2 dogs female 12 yrs old and My male dog who is 11 yrs. old has started urinating in the house when we leave. We have a dog door that he can go out anytime he wants. What is causing this?

There could be a medical reason, like a urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a disease that causes increased drinking/urination (kidney disease, Cushings, diabetes, etc.) so he really should be examined by a vet for a work up. Your vet can test a urine sample and run blood work, if needed, to help diagnose and treat. If a medical reason is rule out then it is likely a behavioral issue. You could crate him when you leave and/or you could try an Adaptil collar and Solliquin chews and see if that helps. He could also be developing some cognitive dysfunction and, if so, your vet could prescribe medications to help.
