What's the best way to help my cat adjust to a new home after moving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 6 months old | 3.5 lbs

Hello, We are planning to move house in a few weeks time, and we would like to know some tips on how to deal with a cat moving with us. Bella has lived in our house for over a year, and now moving into a flat I am wondering how she will deal with it? Thank you

If she is used to being an indoor cat, the move should not be a huge change but if she is generally outdoors then moving to a new house/area can be much more difficult. I recommend starting her on royal canin calm food 10-14days before the move in order to smooth the transition. It is generally recommended to keep cats in for 2-3weeks after a move so they can adapt to their new environment and reduce the risk of them going 'back home'
