Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old
Gus has been squinting his eye for a couple of days and doesn't want to open it all the way. I looked and it's not red/irritated or swollen. I also checked and there's nothing visible in his eye/lid. His eye seems perfectly normal besides the fact he doesn't want to keep it open. I've been keeping it clean so it won't get infected. I'm just wondering what it could be, and if there are any home remedies to help him out before we take him to the vet.

If there is a corneal injury, you likely will not be able to see it. Place an e-collar (cone) on Gus and have him examined by your veterinarian. A corneal stain may divulge a scratch or small ulcer. Since he is squinting, there is likely some degree of discomfort.
