First-time dog owner: Should I adopt a female dog? Spay problems?

I would be adopting a dog for the first time so just wanted to know is it okay for the first timers to adopt a female dog and if we adopt a female dog and spay her would there be any problems after spaying?

A spayed female dog will make a good companion. If you get a young dog I would have her spayed at six months before her first heat. The young dogs heal much more quickly from the surgery and shouldn’t have complications.
