Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 4 lbs
My 8 year old chihuahua has started urinating in small amounts at a very frequent rate. Her abdomen is also very hard and slightly swollen. She has no appetite and seems to be very uncomfortable. This has been occurring for two days now. She once had this problem before, but the only symptoms were the frequent urination. Our local vet gave us a hormonal medicine and eventually my dog stopped having issues with urinaring, but it’s unclear if it helped or if she got better on her own.

I am sorry Lily is having an issue like this. I would recommend going back to the veterinarian. My concern is she may have a urinary tract infection, she could have bladder stone or she could have something more going on like a mass in the bladder. All 3 of these differentials can make dogs urinate more frequently and more often. I would bring a urine sample if you can collect one before you go to the veterinarian. This way the veterinarian can evaluate it. She may also need X-rays if they are suspicious of a bladder stone. If she cannot urinate at any point this is a life threatening emergency and she would need veterinary care immediately. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
