My cat had a brief strange episode. Was it a seizure? Should I worry?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 1 year and 3 months old

Stella is laying in my lap, bathing, and suddenly started looking all around. Full head movement. I thought maybe she saw something flying around, but she continued doing this for a full 7 to 10 seconds. Her eyes were kind of squinting and she wasn’t really focused on anything. After it was over, she just continued bathing like nothing happened. She seems fine now. Should I be concerned? Was this a seizure?

Hello. It is sometimes difficult to say without a video if this was a seizure, but if it was, it was a petit one. Not all seizures are classic grand mal types. We see a wide range of behaviors & degrees. In a young cat, I would not be very concerned, especially since this was so mild, & was relatively brief. Just be aware that if it happens again, just have your veterinarian evaluate her. Mild, occasional seizures never need treatment, but there is a very small chance they may worsen. But I would not be too concerned now. Take care.
